Found in large schools, over sandy bottoms, often buried in the sand of semi-enclosed lagoons and coastal reefs.
They feed on zooplankton.
Length - 15cm
Depth - 0-170m
Widespread Northeast Pacific, Northwest Pacific

Their name means "sand burrower", as they burrow into the sand to avoid tidal currents.
