Found singly, or in schools, lurking around rocky outcrops, and weedy edges, waiting for their prey, over clearwater, vegetated creeks, freshwater lakes, pools, and rivers.
They feed on ducklings, fish, muskrats, and snakes, biting their heads off first, and then swallowing the rest of their prey.
