Found singly, pairs or large schools in murky waters over coral and rocky areas of reef flats, lagoons and seaward reefs.
They feed on benthic invertebrates, coral polyps, encrusting sponges and tunicates.

Widespread Eastern Pacific, Indo-Pacific
