Mediterranean Cardinalfish (Apogon imberbis)

Also known as King of the Mullets


Also know as King of the Mullets.

Found singly or in large schools sheltering during the day in caves and under ledges, out at night foraging for food over mud and rocky bottoms of coral and rocky reefs.
They feed nocturnally on the bottom or in the water column on fish and small invertebrates.
Length - 15cm
Depth - 10-200m
Widespread Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean

Males incubate their eggs inside their mouths, as the egg masses increase in size they can be found with wide open mouths where they shift the eggs around to aerate the egg masses. Ref:
