Also known as Atlantic Shadefish, Brown Meagre, Croaker, Jewfish, Salmon Bass, Shadefish, Southern Meagre, Stone Bass.

Found singly, or in schools, pursuing schools of fish, over inshore and shelf waters. These fish move from shore to off-shore, in response to temperature changes in the water.
They feed on swimming crustaceans and small fish.
Juveniles found in estuaries and coastal lagoons.
Length - 230cm
Depth - 15-300m
Widespread Eastern Atlantic, Black Sea, Mediterranean, Red Sea
