Also known as Flying Fish, Grunt Fish, Gurnard, Japanese Sea Robin, Longwing Sea Robin.

Found singly, on rubble, and sandy bottoms, sometimes partially buried in sand, over bays and lagoons.
They feed on crustaceans and small fish.
Juveniles found in shallow waters.
Length - 20cm
Depth - 40-115m
Widespread Western Pacific

The pelvic fins act like legs as the fish walks along the bottom of the ocean. They also grunt or make chirping noises by expelling gas from their bladders. French term for the word Gurnard means to grunt. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/10439
