Also known as Lipspot Moray Eel, Textile Moray, Whitelip Moray, White-lipped Moray, White-lipped Reef Eel

Description

Also known as Lipspot Moray Eel, Textile Moray, Whitelip Moray, White-lipped Moray, White-lipped Reef Eel.

Found during the day in caves, crevices, under ledges, and amongst rubble, usually over shallow reef flats but can be found deeper, out in the open feeding at night.
They feed nocturnally on benthic crustaceans and small fish.
Can "take a fancy too divers" if they are not careful.
Length - 50.5cm
Depth - 1-45m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Morays open and close their mouths to move water through their gills for respiration.
This behaviour can often be seen as a threat especially towards divers, in fact this is far from the truth, they are very shy creatures and will only attack if provoked! Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/5390
