Found singly, over rock and sandy bottoms, or around shipwrecks, in deepwater, rocky off-shore reefs.
They feed on benthic fish and invertebrates.

Western Central Atlantic - Gulf of Mexico

Toadfish can make a load croaking noise with their swim bladders. Their mouth can open and expand to the width of their bodies to engulf large prey.
