Also known as Golden Medaka, Japanese Killifish, Japanese Medaka, Medaka, Medaka Rice-carp, Medaka Ricefish, Paddyfish, Rice Paddy Fish, Tooth-carp.

Found in schools over marshes, paddy fields, and ponds, and in slow moving streams, also sometime found in tide-pools of coastal areas.
They feed on crustaceans, insects, worms and zooplankton.

A popular aquarium fish, believed to have been kept in aquariums since the 17th century.
They have even travelled into space, where they have the distinction of being the first vertebrate to mate and produce healthy young in space.
