Description

Also known as Kallopterus Cardinalfish, Nurseryfish, Snyder's Cardinal, Spinyhead Cardinalfish.

Found singly over lower clear water surge zones over patch reefs of lagoons and seaward reefs.
They feed nocturnally on small benthic free swimming crustaceans.
Length - 15cm
Depth - 3-150m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Males incubate their eggs inside their mouths, as the egg masses increase in size they can be found with wide open mouths where they shift the eggs around to aerate the egg masses.
