Green Spoon Worm (Bonellia viridis)

Description

Also known as Echiuran Worm, Green Bonellia, Marine Worm, Tongue Worm.

Found burrowing amongst rocks and gravel over hard bottoms.
They feed on detritus and tiny animals.
Females can extend their tongue up to two metres to feed!
Length - 15cm
Depth - 10-100m
Circumtropical

Some marine worms are covered in hairs for protection scavenging on the seafloor for detritus. While others are delicate fans protected by their self made tubes, which they retreat back into when threatened, these are filter feeders and feed on plankton.
