Found in schools, searching by scraping all day ,for their food, over plants, roots, and stones, in drainage ditches, and upper portions of both, the Negro River in Brazil, and the Orinoco River in Venezuela.
They feed on Aufwuchs - slime coatings of algae, detritus, and zooplankton.
