Description

Also known as Aquatic Garibaldi, California Garibaldi, Garibaldi, Garibaldi Damsel.

Found over rocky bottoms, close to caves, crevices and kelp forests of clear water inshore reefs.
They feed on invertebrates.
Males aggressively territorial.
Length - 30cm
Depth - 0-30m
Widespread Eastern Central Pacific

Found a lot in the aquarium trade.

Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches. Spawning occurs at dawn. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/Hypsypops-rubicundus.html
