Found on mud and sandy substrates, in rocky tide-pools, over intertidal creeks, estuaries, lagoons, and mangrove swamps
They feed on benthic crustaceans, fish, molluscs, and worms.

Depth - 0-16m
Widespread Eastern Atlantic, Western Atlantic, Caribbean, Mediterranean
