Description

Also known as Blubberlip, Dark-banded Sweetlip, Sweetlips, Threeband Sweetlip, Three-banded Sweetlip, Yellow-spotted Grunt.

Found singly or in schools, hiding in nooks and crannies during the day, feeding nocturnally over coral and rocky coastal reefs.
They feed nocturnally on benthic invertebrates.

Depth - 1-35m
Widespread Indo-West Pacific

In some areas of the world 'Grunts' are better known as 'Sweetlips' distinguished from other species by their very large rubbery lips.
'Grunts'because they "grunt," the grunting sound is produced by their flat teeth plates rubbing together and this is amplified by their air bladders.
