Found in large schools, burrowed into mud and sand bottoms, hiding in caves, nooks and crannies, or in piles of leaf litter, over slow moving, lowland forest canals, peat bogs, rivers, hill streams, and swamps.
They feed nocturnally close to the bottom on small crustaceans and insect larvae.
