Description

Also known as Blackfin Squirrelfish, Silver Squirrelfish, Smooth Squirrelfish.

Found singly, or in small schools, sometimes mixed with Neoniphon samara, mainly around oceanic islands, rich in coral growth, especially large staghorn corals.
They feed nocturnally on benthic invertebrates.
Length - 24cm
Depth - 3-20m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Squirrelfish are nocturnal hunters feeding near the bottom on small fish and swimming crustaceans. During the day they often congregate close to reefs and in caves, sometimes found upside down in caves.
Their colour can change greatly in different lights and if threatened.
