Found singly, blending in with its surroundings, in shallow, brackish waters, amongst crevices in rocks, rubble, and in seagrass beds, of coral reefs.
They feed on crustaceans and small fish.

Dottybacks are usually small and often brightly coloured.
They live inside the reefs structure, often at the back of caves and are very territorial and aggressive.
