Description

Also known as Barbells, Dogfish, Frogfish, Mudfish, Oyster Dog, Sapo Bacon, Tropical Toadfish.

Found singly, sometimes partially buried, over rock, sand, and in seagrass beds, of shallow coastal bays and lagoons.
They feed on small fish and molluscs.
Length - 40cm
Depth - 0-70m
Widespread Western Atlantic, Caribbean

Toadfish can make a load croaking noise with their swim bladders. They breathe air when out of water for up to 24hrs. Their mouth can open and expand to the width of their bodies to engulf large prey. Has poisonous spines. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/967
