Description

Also known as Cro-cro Grunt, Green Snapper, Yellow Cro-cro.

Found in schools, during the day, over shallow, muddy, areas of sandy shores, and in deeper waters at night, foraging for food.
They feed nocturnally on crustaceans and small fish.
Length - 33cm
Depth - 1-100m
Widespread Western Atlantic, Caribbean

In some areas of the world 'Grunts' are better known as 'Sweetlips' distinguished from other species by their very large rubbery lips.
'Grunts'because they "grunt," the grunting sound is produced by their flat teeth plates rubbing together and this is amplified by their air bladders.

  1. I went back to the same spot and took numerous pictures with my new camera (I uploaded one of them to the unidentified) and I am no t sure it this is the right species, because I don't see any bars. Its still a mystery to me!

  2. I think your fish is this one. When I enhanced the picture it was possible to see bars and also on some of the fish they had a couple of odd spots on their backs, also yellow fins. If you google the fish you can see some fish have these spots, it is also a lemony yellow colour! Let me know if you don't agree!
