Found singly in muddy bays, estuaries and mouths of large rivers, often floating on its side amongst or under floating bouys, debris and weeds, also around boats and docks sometimes found drifting over reefs.
They feed on benthic crustaceans and small fish.
Juveniles floating close to sargassum rafts usually resembling a leaf.
