Spotted Moray (Gymnothorax isingteena)

Also known as Black-spotted Moray, Honeycomb Moray, Spotted Moral Eel

Description

Also known as Black-spotted Moray, Honeycomb Moray, Spotted Moral Eel.

Found singly, or in family groups, hiding in crevices, and holes, amongst outcrops in the reef, with just their heads showing, over coastal and outer reefs.
They feed nocturnally on crustaceans and small fish.
Length - 180cm
Depth - 3-30m
Widespread Indo-West Pacific

Morays open and close their mouths to move water through their gills for respiration.
This behaviour can often be seen as a threat especially towards divers, in fact this is far from the truth, they are very shy creatures and will only attack if provoked! Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/58603
