Description

Also known as Arabian Sweetlips, Blubber-lipped Bream, Grey Sweetlips, Minstrel, Minstrel Sweetlips, Somber Blubberlips, Somber Rubberlips, Sweetlips.

Found singly or in small schools, over coral and rocks, in surf zones of fringing reefs, they also enter estuaries and rivers.
They feed on benthic crustaceans, fish and invertebrates.
Juveniles found in tidepools.

Depth - 0-80m
Widespread Indo-West Pacific

In some areas of the world 'Grunts' are better known as 'Sweetlips' distinguished from other species by their very large rubbery lips.
'Grunts'because they "grunt," the grunting sound is produced by their flat teeth plates rubbing together and this is amplified by their air bladders.

    Neither photo you have here is a somber- one is a coral trout FFS! The other is D pictum!
