Also known as High-backed Mahseer, Hump-backed Mahseer, Indian Salmon, Tor Mussullah, Tropical Trout.

Found in deeper waters, of lakes and fast flowing fresh water streams and rivers.
They feed on algae, crustaceans, fish, frogs and fruit.

Their name is derived from two words, Maha meaning big and sher meaning lion as it travels up hilly rivers and streams of Himalaya courageously to spawn.
