Description

Also known as Black Flathead, Dusky, Estuary Flathead, Flattie, Frog, Lizard, Mud Flathead, River Flathead.

Found singly, or in loose schools, lying on gravel, mud, sand, silt, and seagrass bottoms, of estuaries, coastal and rocky reefs, often entering freshwater areas.
They feed on fish, benthic invertebrates and sand dwelling squid.
Juveniles found in coastal bays.

Flatheads are closely related to Scorpionfish.
