Found in small schools, occasionally close to shore but usually oceanic in the sunlight zone.
They feed on crustaceans, small fish and molluscs.

Depth - 0-1000m
Widespread Eastern Atlantic, Western Atlantic, Indo-Pacific, South Pacific
