Description

Found singly or in small schools, close to caves, corals, and crevices, over semi-silty waters of coastal reefs.
They feed on fish, sometimes quite large fish, by expanding their jaws and swallowing them whole.
Length - 25cm
Depth - 1-100m
Widespread Indo-West Pacific

Soapfish are nocturnal hunters, some are seen in the open during the day and others are more shy and stay under cover of the reef.
Juveniles mimic venomous blennies.
