Description
Also known as Boxy, The Cube Boxfish, Cubical Boxfish, Cube Trunkfish, Polka-dot Boxfish and Black-spotted Boxfish.
Found singly on protected coral and rocky reefs on slopes and drop-off's.
They feed mainly on algae, but will also feed on sponges, crustaceans and molluscs.
Juvenile babies green with black spots changing to yellow with black spots before changing to the adult greys, yellow and blues.
They feed mainly on algae, but will also feed on sponges, crustaceans and molluscs.
Length - 45cm
Depth - 1-40m
Widespread Indo-Pacific
In 2006, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its Bionic concept car, inspired by the Yellow Boxfish.
The bodies of Boxfish are covered in a toxic mucus which can be released when stressed.
