Also known as Gold-scaled Damselfish, Golden-scaled Damselfish, Sergeant, Whitebelly Damsel, Whitebelly Damselfish, Whitebelly Devil, White-breasted Sergeant, White-breasted Sergeant-Major, Yellowbelly Devil.

Found singly or in small schools, over lagoons, inner and outer passages, slopes, and reefs, rich in coral growth.
They feed on algae, fish eggs, and zooplankton.

Depth - 2-45m
Widespread Indo-West Pacific

Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches. Spawning occurs at dawn. Ref: https://www.fishbase.org/summary/5691
