Description
Also known as Sergeants, Staghorn Damselfish, Clouded Damselfish, Staghorn Sergeant and Black-snouted Sergeant-Major.
Found on coral reefs and in lagoons, often form feeding aggregations around Acropora staghorn corals.
Juveniles are generally associated with Sarcophyton and Sinularia soft corals.
They vary in colour between a silvery blue/green with yellow patch and dark bars.
They feed on zooplankton and filamentous algae.

Depth - 1-40m
Widespread Indo-Pacific
Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches. Spawning occurs at dawn.
