Also known as Hellers Swimming Crab, Indian Ocean Portunid Crab, Indo-Pacific Swimming Crab, Purple-legged Swimming Crab, Spiny Hands, Swimming Crab, True Crab.

Found in both shallow and deeper waters, amongst live corals, under rocks, over mud, sand, and stony bottoms, of mangroves, seagrass beds, and in tide pools.
They feed on zooplankton.

Widespread Atlantic, Mediterranean, Indo-Pacific

Brachyura crabs are considered true crabs, they have a short abdomen, four walking legs and a pair of clawed arms at the front.
