Found singly, around bommies, in deep reef channels, over current prone areas, of coastal lagoons and seaward reefs. This is a huge and friendly fish who is very inquisitive to divers
But it should be noted that they can be potentially dangerous, aggressive and territorial!
They feed on crabs, reef fish, skates, and spiny lobsters.
Juveniles found in tide-pools.

Widespread Indo-West Pacific

Groupers are solitary carnivores that hunt near the bottom usually at dusk. Food is drawn into their mouths by a powerful suction when they open their overly large mouths and then swallowed whole.
