Also known as Blackfish, Black King, Black Kingfish, Black Salmon, Bonito, Butterfish, Cod, Crabeater, Cubby Yew, Kingfish, Lemonfish, Ling, Prodigal Son, Runner, Sergeant Fish.

Found singly or in small schools, over almost any habitat, close to shore cruising around bouys and jetties, over gravel, mud and sandy bottoms of coral and rocky reefs, mangrove areas as well as off-shore drifting around stationary objects.
They feed on crabs, fish and squid.

Depth - 0-1200m
Worldwide - Circumtropical, Subtropical

The Cobia is the only one in it's family and genus, although it is closely related to Remoras from the Echeneidae family.
