Description

Also known as Blacksmith Chromis, Blacksmith Damselfish, Blacksmith Fish, Puller.

Found in schools, near the bottom, close to rocks, over steep banks and in kelp beds.
They feed on algae and benthic invertebrates.
Juveniles found over the open ocean retiring to rocky holes at night.
Length - 25cm
Depth - 2-46m
Widespread Eastern Pacific

Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches. Spawning occurs at dawn. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/Chromis-punctipinnis.html
