Description

Also known as Farmer Damsels, Blackbar Devil, Narrowbar Damsel, Narrow Bar Devil, Dick's Damsel, Dick's Demoiselle, Dick's Damselfish and Dick's Devil.

Found singly or in loose groups in clear water coral rich lagoons, seaward reef slopes and surge zones.
Adults have a yellow tail and juveniles a white tail.
They feed on algae, benthic invertebrates and sometimes small fish.
Length - 10cm
Depth - 1-15m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches. Spawning occurs at dawn.
