Description

Also known as Banggai Emperor, Emperor Cardinalfish, Kaudern's Cardinal, Kaudern's Cardinalfish and Longfin Cardinalfish.

Found in shoals in shallow coastal waters, in schools near and often in the spines of Long-spined Sea Urchins, Sea Anemones and branching corals for protection, sheltering during the day coming out at night to feed on zooplankton and bottom dwelling crustaceans.

Depth - 0-2m
Restricted to Banggai Islands and central-east Sulawesi in Indonesia.

Males incubate their eggs inside their mouths, as the egg masses increase in size they can be found with wide open mouths where they shift the eggs around to aerate the egg masses.
