Description

Also known as Arc-eyed Hawkfish, Archeye Hawkfish, Horseshoe Hawkfish, Monocle Hawkfish, Redeye Hawkfish, Red-eyed Hawkfish, Ringeye Hawkfish, Ring-eyed Hawkfish, Spectacle Hawkfish, White-lined Hawkfish.

Found singly, perched on heads of branching corals, over lagoons and seaward reefs. Variations in colour but always with the extended eye-ring.
They feed on crustaceans and small fish.
Length - 20cm
Depth - 1-90m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Hawkfish can be found perched as if 'standing on their fins' in the branches or on top of corals and rocks waiting for their prey. If approached by predators they quickly dart away to hide. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/5835
